Breakfast at Jollibee

These past 3 months, I have spent my nights awake, keeping watch over my sick stepfather at the hospital. I get really hungry in the morning-towards the end of my “shift”,- so what I do is head on down to the Jollibee outlet downstairs to get my breakfast fix with an order, or two, of Jollibee Breakfast Joys.

Crispy Bangus

Jollibee Breakfast Joys provide us with the convenience of staying in bed a little longer or attending to our my morning duties, such as gearing up for work, preparing for school, etc. This is such a treat because then I don’t need to cook myself breakfast when I get home—I can just walk in the door and go straight to bed!

Longganisa

With choices ranging from rice meals to pancakes, Jollibee Breakfast Joys offer something to suit every taste. Those who want a traditional Pinoy rice meal can choose among any of the following: Longganisa, Crispy Bangus, Chicken Tocino, Beef Tapa, Hotdog, Corned Beef and Breakfast Steak which all come with garlic rice, fried egg and a choice between coffee, hot chocolate or any regular cold drink.

Pancake Sandwich

Alternatively, if you feel like eating something sweet there’s the 2-pc Pancakes with butter and maple syrup. There’s also the signature Pancake Sandwich, a treat of savory sausage patty and scrambled egg in between two pancakes.

While I have tried all of the meals on the Breakfast Joys menu, the 2-pc. Pancakes and the Hotdog meal are definite favorites that I always order, with pineapple juice and a cup of hot chocolate. Quite a heavy breakfast, I know– but hey! They do say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Breakfast at Gasthof

One of Boracay’s iconic restaurants is Gasthof, the home of the island’s best baby back ribs. These flavorful ribs can make you forget about using utensils, grab the ribs with your hands and devour the tender meat that’s practically falling off the bone. But it’s not the ribs that making me look forward to going back to Boracay, it’s Gasthof’s breakfast.

Every morning, Gasthof serves Filipino and Continental breakfast. While my travel buddies ordered the Tapsilog and Longsilog, I had veal sausage, with two sunny side up eggs, huge pancake and tea.

What can I say except that I was extremely happy with my breakfast? The sausage was packed with flavor, the eggs cooked the way I like it, the pancake huge and fluffy and comes with maple syrup. Best off all, it’s only Php 190 for the entire thing, and it comes with your choice of tea or coffee. I’m definitely having this when I go back to Boracay this weekend!

Breakfast at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

I arrived 40 minutes early for our 8 o’clock meet up at Greenbelt. Tired and sleepy, I figured a breakfast would do well to revive me. We were supposed to meet at Starbucks, but the first thing that I saw when I stepped out of the cab was Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. I’ve always loved CBLT’s pastries and pastas, now I want to try their breakfast.

They have a few breakfast sets that comes with your choice of coffee, tea or juice, and a cup of stewed fruits. I went for the Eggs Ben, basically eggs benedict on rosemary focaccia, with a couple more slices of bread and some butter and jam, and a cup of English Breakfast Tea for Php 229.

The presentation is good. I sliced a small triangle and took my first bite. What can I say? It was good; the flavor of the turkey ham and the hollandaise sauce mixes well and thanks to the otherwise flavorless poached egg and the bread underneath, it wasn’t overpowering.

After a couple more bites, I moved to the slices of focaccia. Using my hands to break off a piece, I was disconcerted that it took some effort. One bite and it confirmed what I initially thought: this bread is tough. All the focaccia I’ve encountered have been soft, so eating this bread that required a fair amount of chewing was a bit of a shock. Maybe it’s old and stale or was the victim of an unfortunate reheating in the microwave. Nevertheless, this was the only sour note in an otherwise hearty breakfast.
